Widgets

What is a widget?

A widget is a portable snippet of HTML code that can be embedded in a website. Put more simply, it’s a way of integrating content from one website into another. vFlyer enables you to create widgets that display your active listings and that you can easily embed in your website or blog.

Why should I put a widget on my website, blog, or social networks?

Widgets are great and easy ways of promoting your listings and reaching a wider audience. For one thing, you have many options for the size, shape, and content of your widget; vFlyer offers widgets optimized for putting in the center of a page and for putting on the sidebar, widgets that display all your listings and just one listing. Perhaps best of all, widgets are updated automatically as you add, remove, and edit your flyers, so there’s almost no maintenance required by you once you’ve embedded a widget.

What types of widgets does vFlyer offer?

vFlyer offers several styles of both multi-item widgets (which display multiple listings) and single-item widgets (which display only one listing) for you to choose from.

Can I display listings from other websites in my vFlyer widgets?

Yes. A teaser is an enhanced link to an external web page that is designed for use in vFlyer widgets. To create a teaser, click the Teasers link from the Widget Library, then click Create a Teaser. In the Teaser Editor, enter a title, the URL of the web page the teaser will link to, and any summary information and photos for the listing. Once you are finished, click Save. You can then use your teasers in any vFlyer widget.

Can I include only some of my listings in a multi-item widget?

Yes. You can do this by creating a list. Think of a list as a playlist of your flyers and/or teasers. To create a list, click the Lists link from the Widget Library, then give your list a name and click Import Items. Check the flyers and/or teasers you want to import and click Import. Once your list is complete, in the List Editor, click Save List.

To use a list in a multi-item widget, in the Widget Editor, click the drop-down menu labeled Seleted List, then select the list you want to use and continue creating the widget following the steps outlined below.

How can I create a vFlyer widget?

It’s easy! Just follow these steps:

  1. From your account homepage, click the Widgets link.
  2. On the Widget Library page, select the type of widget you want and click Create.
  3. In the Widget Editor, choose either the list (for a multi-item widget) or item (for a single-item widget) from the drop-down menu.
  4. If you want, you can customize the colors and text of your widget using the options provided.
  5. When your widget is finished, click Get HTML & Share.

Can I put a widget I make on any website I want?

vFlyer widgets are designed for embedding in wide range of websites. However, some websites have restrictions on third-party content, so you may not be able to embed your widgets on those sites. The hosted version of WordPress falls into this category.

For more information on embedding widgets into websites, blogs, and social networks, take a look at our tutorial page on embedding widgets.

Am I limited to a certain number of widgets?

Yes. The limit on how many widgets you can have at any given time is the same as your active flyer limit. Here are the limits for each account type:

  • Personal: 2
  • Starter: 10
  • Basic: 25
  • Premium: 50
  • Professional: 125

If you don’t know the type of account you have, click the Account link, then the Billing link.
